Why a smaller franchise system is sometimes better

Mountain Mike’s may have more to offer you than a giant national pizza franchise

If you’re looking for a pizza franchise for sale, the Big Four national brands are likely to be top of mind. But if you’re looking for a pizza franchise where territory is still available, the brand is beloved regionally and where you as a franchisee might actually have a voice, you might just prefer a smaller brand like Mountain Mike’s.

Mountain Mike’s has been a beloved California brand for over 40 years. Since a new ownership group bought the brand in 2017, we’ve seen more growth and increasing sales. We currently have over 200 locations, and we were recently voted one of QSR’s Best Deals for 2020.

One of the best advantages of a smaller system like ours is access to the brand leadership. Franchise Business Coach Nancy Soufi, for instance, was a franchisee with Mountain Mike’s for 27 years. After selling her business and taking a break, she came back in 2018 and interviewed personally with principal owners and co-CEO’s Chris Britt and Ed St. Geme, as well as Jim Metevier, who is also our COO and President.

“My first interview went great,” she says. “The second interview was with Jim and Chris, and it was awesome and they hired me. I was blessed.

 “Since they bought the company, everybody knows Mountain Mike’s now,” Soufi says.

A smaller franchise system lets you, the franchise owner, feel heard. While we look ahead toward our new normal, Mountain Mike’s is prepared to shift with the changing needs of our guests, but never losing who we are as a brand. We’re continuing to open new locations, even during the pandemic, and we look forward to expanding into new territories. Unlike the Big 4 pizza brands, many of our open territories have no waiting list.
