QSR recognizes our 40-year-old pizza franchise in the 2020 Best Franchise Deals ranking

QSR magazine has named Mountain Mike’s Pizza among the Best Franchise Deals in 2020, thanks to our strong financial performance and cult-like fan base. Since 1977, our California-based pizza franchise has been anchoring communities and serving up some of the most mouth-watering pizza around. 

The Best Franchise Deals ranking is typically based on ROI, unique brand attributes, franchise support and incentives, key financial performance and information in the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD). We love seeing this ranking, in addition to our spots in the Entrepreneur Franchise 500 and the Power Pizza Report.

Why are we a great franchise deal?

Recession-resistant industry. COVID-19 careened into the restaurant industry early in 2020, giving an edge to those who were able to adjust quickly to delivery and carryout in ways that involved no contact with the public. The pizza industry in general, and Mountain Mike’s in particular, have been booming. We already had our own healthy in-house delivery and carryout sales, as well as enterprise partnerships with the major 3rd party delivery platforms, and being a known quantity in an uncertain world — you know your local pizza place can deliver flawlessly! — was seen as a big plus by consumers. 

While many restaurants laid off workers or shuttered completely, most pizza franchises have been hiring to keep up with demand. In addition to our ability to be nimble for consumers, our delivery-and-carryout business model has also made it easier for many of our franchisees to give back by feeding first responders, health care workers, isolated community members and many more. 

Strong sales. When you can keep your restaurant running during a pandemic, that’s really saying something. Many of our stores have seen dramatic sales increases, partly due to our commitment to consistently high-quality product and customer service. With a lot of restaurants shutting down, some temporarily and some permanently, Mountain Mike’s was ready to step in and feed our hungry customers. Through community engagement, customer loyalty and an ongoing marketing program, Mountain Mike’s has worked hard to retain our existing customers and attract new ones.

Unique brand positioning. We’ve got crispy, curly pepperoni — the kind of pepperoni that crisps up at the edges when baked for a very satisfying crunch. We even have a special purveyor for our legendary top-selling pepperoni. We have 40 years of striving to meet our mission providing the highest-quality pizza using only the freshest and finest ingredients available. 

That’s why you won’t find us competing in the bargain bin with those pizza chains touting the $5-$6-$7 pizza. Call us old-fashioned, but we think sticking to our standards and refusing to compromise on quality sets us apart from the crowd. By competing on the basis of quality rather than just price, we’re also able to maintain healthier product margins. We also hold fast to our values of being involved in and an advocate for our communities. 

We look forward to the day when we can once again fully open our dining rooms to allow people to gather and celebrate with their favorite foods. Meanwhile, we’ll continue to serve our guests as safely and efficiently as possible.
