Mountain Mike’s Pizza, with our family-friendly service and our trademark crispy, curly pepperoni, has been a California icon since opening our first location in 1978. But we believe that other states deserve to experience “Pizza the Way It Oughta Be.” We also have restaurant units in Nevada, Oregon and Utah, plus active marketing and/or development programs in six additional states. One of our “in active development” states is Texas.
Going Big
Texans like to boast that “everything is bigger” in their state, and Mountain Mike’s arrival (with our 20-inch Mountain-sized pizza among the tasty specialties) is big news. The initial launching point will be the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area, where the first franchisees signed on in August to open three new restaurants; more contracts are pending throughout neighboring Collin County. Texas is projected to grow into our brand’s second-largest market after California.
Texas “has had the fastest-growing population in the U.S. over the past 10 years,” according to Mountain Mike’s principal owners and Co-CEO’s Chris Britt and Ed St. Geme. “Its pizza capacity has had trouble keeping up: the number of pizza places per capita is among the lowest in the country. Now is the right time to introduce all that Mountain Mike’s Pizza has to offer to our friends in the Lone Star State.”
What Mountain Mike’s Has to Offer
Besides what it provides for guests—delicious foods made with the freshest ingredients, great service and a family-oriented atmosphere—Mountain Mike’s offers much to franchisees.
The advantages don’t stop with rapid expansion, brand name and quality products. Given the state’s fondness for down-home friendliness right alongside big business, Texas entrepreneurs will appreciate the emphasis on good relationships between franchisor and franchisee; business and customers; and owners and staff. Franchisees can expect hands-on advice from experienced pros in management and marketing, plus channels to easily communicate any unit-owner concerns.
A few examples of our franchisor-franchisee relationship success:
- René Ziegler, a 25-year franchisee whose restaurant saw high month-over-month growth during pandemic lockdowns, says that in her opinion, “the best part is we get to train [staff] from scratch,” teaching them “what true customer service is all about” and what makes a successful brand and a successful business career.
- Raj Lehl, 4-year franchisee who recently opened his 2nd franchise, , reports, “The support I have received has been phenomenal,” and the “personal relationship” aspect, found in few big brands, invaluable.
- Yvette Pettit, multi-unit operator brought up in the restaurant business, notes that during the worst of the COVID shutdowns, corporate support “took a lot of anxiety away.” Another “best thing” about entering the Mountain Mike’s franchise? The low starting fees and ease of getting in: “All you have to do is execute.”
Currently, Mountain Mike’s has over 240 restaurants in the U.S. (with sales volume averaging over $1M per restaurant), is scheduled to break the 250 mark and has 25 new locations open or opening in 2021.
